Large-scale Solar Association

"As of this year California has approximately 9,800MW of installed utility-scale solar capacity, creating more than 30,000 construction jobs in 2016 alone, and in some of the state’s most disadvantaged communities. These projects will provide enough solar energy to power approximately 1.8M homes in California. Additionally, the long-term contracts for this power source provide an important price hedge against the volatility of conventional power sources.

A continuation of the RPS current market mechanism is necessary in order to maintain clean energy momentum, to send clear signals to the market, and to continue the state’s economic success as a destination point for renewable energy development. The Investor Owned Utilities are on track to exceed 40% renewable energy by 2020, putting achievement of a 50% RPS by 2025 and 60% by 2030 well within reach. Additionally, the exponential decline in the price of solar and wind technologies will further serve the interest of the state’s ratepayers."
