About the Wildfire Preparedness and Response Legislative Conference Committee

Wildfire and extreme weather are more destructive than ever. It is critically important for the Legislature and the Governor to take decisive action to protect the lives and property of the people of California.

In order to do so, the Governor called for a Wildfire Preparedness and Response Conference Committee to put forth legislation to strengthen disaster preparedness and set forth appropriate policies to respond to increasing wildfire danger.

Senate Bill 901 (the Wildfire Preparedness and Response Legislative Conference Committee vehicle) will help prepare the state to deal with increasingly extreme weather and natural disasters caused by climate change.

Key Issues

RESPONSE: Ensuring adequate buy-in from local communities
MITIGATION: Improving hazard mapping and public warning
PREVENTION: Reducing wildfire risk and making improvements to infrastructure to make them fire resistant
